Book #25: The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

This book is widely acclaimed as the great american novel.  In it we find a story of rags and riches, love and infidelity, recreation and revenge.  Jay Gatsby creates his wealthy persona in quest for his long lost love who is married to another man, only to find his pursuit to culminate in a tragic end.  On my initial reading I was not a fan of this book.  It represents everything that I consider to be unbiblical and immoral about our culture.  However on further reflection, I have come to view this story as a literary personification of Psalm 1.  In it we see the fruit and outcome of a life devoted to the pursuit of sinful pleasures.
